Loveship Symposium: Grounding

Alexis Pauline Gumbsis a queer black troublemaker, a black feminist love evangelist, a prayer poet priestess and has a PhD in English, African and African-American Studies, and Women and Gender Studies from Duke University.  Alexis was the first scholar to research the Audre Lorde Papers at Spelman College, the June Jordan Papers at Harvard University, and the Lucille Clifton Papers at Emory University.  She has also researched in the archival papers of Toni Morrison, Toni Cade Bambara, Fannie Lou Hamer and many more.Alexis is the author ofM Archive: After the End of the World (Duke Press, 2018),Spill: Scenes of Black Feminist Fugitivity(Duke University Press, 2016) and the co-editor ofRevolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines(PM Press, 2016) andhas also published widely on Caribbean Women’s Literature with a special interest in Dionne Brand. Her scholarly work is published inObsidian, Symbiosis, Macomere, The Routledge Companion to Anglophone Literature, SIGNS, Feminist Collections, The Black Imagination, Mothering and Hip Hop Culture, The Business of Black Powerand more.Alexis is the author of an acclaimed collection of poems101 Things That Are Not True About the Most Famous Black Women Aliveand poetic work published inKweli,Vinyl, Backbone, Everyday Genius, Turning Wheel, UNFold, Makeshiftand more.Alexis is the founder of Brilliance Remastered, a service to help visionary underrepresented graduate students stay connected to purpose, passion, and community, co-founder of the Mobile Homecoming Project, a national experiential archive amplifying generations of Black LGBTQ Brilliance, and the community school Eternal Summer of the Black Feminist Mind.

Have you ever been in a room full of Queer couples of color commited to love, justice and spiritual practice? In a space grounded in Black Feminism? This is our opportunity. The Loveship Symposiums are in person gatherings where we go deeper into the Loveship Paradigm curriculum developed by Sangodare and Alexis Pauline Gumbs. The Symposiums are an embodied practice space and playground that takes place over the course of a weekend. Here we really get a full sensory and spiritual experience of the impact of the Loveship Paradigm as we live it out in a group setting. We get to experience what it is like when Loveship multiplies and spreads. Spend a Saturday or the whole weekend having your partnership uplifted and celebrated. 
We can accommodate 8 Loveships in the April Symposium.
The Loveship Paradigm taps into the truth we find in June Jordan's words - Love is Lifeforce - and shares the tools and practices we have cultivated to unfold Love in action robustly throughout the world by learning to do so with another person. Grounded in Black Feminism, this curriculum makes freedom more accessible in practice and in our partnerships.
This is a priceless investment in your partnership and the possibility of love filled relationships in our communities more broadly. In order to attend the Symposium you must have already completed the 4week Cohort program.* 
We will be in practice all day Saturday. The Friday evening and Sunday morning participation is optional but still outstanding. On Saturday we will eat together, venture out together, dance, sing, play and stretch our minds-bodies-spirits through Loveship activities led by Alexis and Sangodare. For this Symposium the theme is VISION & GROUNDING. We will be exploring and nourishing the horizons and roots that source our (practical and conceptual) visions for our Loveships (#vision) AND what it take to be present to love in each moment.
*You may attend if your Loveship has already graduated from our 4 week cohort program.

APRIL:  Grounding 17th Friday - Loveship group outing (6:30pm-9pm optional) 18th Saturday - Facilitated Activities (10am-7pm required) 19th Sunday - Sunday Service (11am-1pm optional) -----(for Loveships where one partner is Queer BIPOC and the other aligned with Black Feminism) --- Registration is $400 per Loveship ($200 registration deposit).
