The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience.  We are an all-ages listening room. We exist to present great music and promote jazz as an art form.The Sound Room is the home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts, a  501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on promoting the Arts.

The Sound Room

Bay Area singer-songwriter, Zoe FitzGerald Carter's latest album, Before the Machine, drops on June 7, 2024. The album weaves&nbsp;a rich fabric of folk, rock, blues and jazz and features a stellar cast of top Bay Area musicians. Inspired by memories of a pre-smart phone world, the title track explores how&nbsp;technology, and specifically smart phones, has changed our experience of time. Most of us live "in the machine,” but there was another world not so long ago. The world Before the Machine.Picking up where Zoe’s last album, Waterlines, left off, Before the Machine further showcases the artist’s vivid, literary sense of language while weaving a rich and confident fabric of folk, country, rock, blues and jazz. From the achingly intimate beauty of Angel Bus to the sultry rocker Magic Bus, to the Tom Waits-eque evocation of New York City on Let’s Just Stay Friends, this wide-ranging 9-track LP features a stellar cast of top Bay Area musicians and, like Waterlines, was produced by&nbsp;Jeffrey Wood at Fantasy Studio in Berkeley, CA.&nbsp; “Zoe’s writing talent is boundless.
