'Summer Garden Party' at Murray Playground LIC

The Queensboro Dance Festival launched in 2014 and is an annual summer season of public events and performances presenting only Queens-based cultural and contemporary dance companies. We tour the borough, bringing Queens dance to theaters, parks, plazas, libraries, and streets to serve the Queens public and visitors.  We strive to represent a slice of Queens dance, with the mission to strengthen the dance community in Queens and garner a greater appreciation for Queens dance.  Follow us in Instagram@queensborodancefestival, and visitwww.queensborodancefestival.queensborodancefestival.or.

The group performs the traditional music of Cyprus in varying orchestrations and styles that both consciously honor the time period of composition and period instruments as well as perform with a modern approach. Peter Douskalis, Project/Music Director, plays the laouto, oud, mandolin, and guitar in the group, switching between the proper instrument as needed for the authentic and modern orchestration of the pieces. Elena Chris, vocalist and Artistic Director, sings the traditional songs in the Cypriot dialect of Greek, as well as in Turkish for songs that contain lyrics in both languages. Other instruments of the group include Alex Tasopoulos, violin/viola, and also vary to contrabass, pithkiavli, ney, and percussion. Sounds of Cyprus is an inclusive collective that promotes diversity and positive cultural exchange, promoting all of the Sounds of Cyprus. Performances subject to change.
