    SOL HORIZON

Sol Horizon is Sonoma County’s premier reggae band. Voted “Best Band” in the North Bay Bohemian’s “Best of the North Bay” Reader’s Picks in 2022 and 2023, as well as “Best Reggae Band” in the North Bay seven times, including the last 3 years in a row and 6 of the last 7 years, the band is renowned for its energetic live performances and powerful lyrical content centering on themes of peace, positivity, community, sustainability and the re-vitalizing power of nature. The band members are deeply rooted in and nurtured by their dynamic local community, with strong ties to the arts and culture of Sonoma County and its delicate natural splendor.

Anchored by veteran musicians and former Groundation and Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade members, Sol Horizon seamlessly fuses roots reggae with dub, rock, funk, and world music sharing stages with legendary acts like Ziggy Marley, Steel Pulse, Anthony B, The Wailers, Morgan Heritage, Collie Buddz, Don Carlos, and Eek-a-mouse (to name a few) in both concert halls and festival stages across the USA. After touring in support, they collaborated with British Roots Reggae star Pato Banton on recording their second album “Party Revolution,” which featured Pato on the title track. In 2017, under the production and direction of Grammy-winning engineer Isha Erskine, the band released their 4th album “Under the Sun,” and a follow-up remix album "Under the Dub" featuring dub remix tracks from electronic artists spanning the globe.

    THE BIG TAKEOVER

Traditionalists or progressives? Fronted by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie, the seven-piece New York band The Big Takeover plays original music that is rooted in and reverent toward the genres and rhythms of Jamaican pop: reggae, rocksteady, and ska. They are devotees of Desmond Dekker and the way the old school did it. At the same time, The Big Takeover crosses lines and blends traditions like global pop fusionists. Their deceptively complex arrangements and big hooks connect with the spirit of Motown and the uptown sophistication of the 21st-century retro soul and R&B revival scene.

That rich sound, along with their rigorous performing schedule and studio work, has been paying off. In 2018, the Big Takeover completed a successful 12-state tour. They were enthusiastically received by 10,000 at Omaha’s Jazz on the Green festival. They delivered an outrageously infectious and nuanced acoustic performance on the popular reggae-centric Sugarshack Sessions. Meanwhile, their current standalone single “Rainboots” has scored big with the discerning tastes at National Public Radio. The Big Takeover has appeared live in studio on several NPR stations, while “Rainboots” is in rotation on all of them.
