About this event

  • 3 hours

Join Madrone artist Kathleen Dickey for a family-friendly adventure, starting at the tide pools of Pescadero where attendees will collect and explore drift seaweeds. After the outing, participants will return to the Madrone Arts gallery with their seaweed treasures. They will put their samples onto acid-free paper in a plant press to preserve them.  At the same time they will learn more about seaweeds and their uses and even sample some seaweed-based foods like kelp cake and nori frittata!  Kathleen will send the pressed samples to the participants once they have dried. What a wonderful way to share the beauty and wonder of our coastal environment!

Further directions and information will be sent to participants once registered.

Kathleen Dickey holds a MS Marine Sciences and has spent many years studying, collecting and teaching about seaweed.  This is an early start for a Madrone workshop, but Kathleen reminds us (along with Chaucer!) that “time and tides wait for no one”.
