Dynamic Contemporary Sculpture: Ages 6-10 - starts 05/08/2024

Founded in 1978, the Downriver Council for the Arts (DCA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) arts and cultural organization that proudly serves nearly 400,000 residents in 21 Downriver communities. The DCA's mission is to enrich the quality of life in the Downriver communities by advocating and promoting the arts and providing opportunities for involvement and participation in arts and cultural activities. We actively support local artists and performers through artistic outreach programs and special promotional opportunities. The DCA also creates regional partnerships with other cultural organizations, schools and service clubs to promote artistic, cultural and special events throughout Southeast Michigan. We hold these activities in our Arts Center and by operating in the various cities we serve. Each program and event at the DCA seeks to increase knowledge and understanding of art and ourselves, improve skills by participants, change one’s attitude or values, give enjoyment, inspiration, and creativity.

This 6-week class offers project based sculpture lessons while creating our visions into three-dimensional masterpieces!

Wednesdays: 6 weeksClass dates: 5/8, 5/15, 5/22, 5/29, 6/5, 6/12Project based sculpture lessons focusing around Chihuly’s organic hanging sculptures, Alberto Giocometti and Louise Bourgeois large unproportionate sculptures, and Andy Goldsworthy’s nature art. Students will explore clay relief tiles, nature materials, wire, paper mache, cardboard, found objects and anything we can think of while creating our visions into three-dimensional masterpieces! Following the last week of class we will have an art show welcoming friends, family and community members to celebrate students’ success throughout the Dynamic Contemporary Sculpting course. Artists come to class with an enthusiastic attitude and ready to grow your creative mind and individual three-dimensional skills! All materials provided.Instructor: Ms. Casey IrvineAges: 6-10Time: 4:00-6:00pmCost: $150Space is limited. Check our website for current guidelines and hours of operation. Please refer questions to dc4arts@downriverarts.orgFine Print:Adults are welcome to stay at the arts center during class time, but we request that you not participate in the class. Please be mindful that (especially during covid restricted times) we have a limited number of bodies allowed in a space. Also, our instructors are there to teach the children, and adults may be distracting to the group. Feel free to roam the building, visit our main floor gallery, lounge in the hallway, explore the auditorium or create art. Wifi is available as well as spaces for you to work.It is the guardian’s/student’s responsibility to stay home if you are sick. If you have a fever, stay home. If someone in your house is sick, stay home. If you have allergies and can’t control sneezing, and cough please stay home. If you have been exposed or if you show signs of Covid-19, please stay home. If you miss a class, we will work with you on getting the instructions home to students, or possibly have an online option. If class is cancelled by the DCA or Executive Orders, we will refund your remaining classes.Hand sanitizer is available for immediate use at the front entrance and entrance into each of our common areas. Parents please drop off and pick up your children outside when possible. Please wash hands with soap and water for at least 30 seconds after touching metal surfaces, sneezing, coughing, blowing your nose or using the restroom. In the case of being diagnosed with Covid-19 or show symptoms, immediately notify the DCA by email at dc4arts@downriverarts.org.By registering for this class, you are agreeing to the terms listed above.
