Throughout the year, we teach poetry in schools, host a month-long festival, and publish poems in books and unexpected places like rooftops, billboards, and fences using a process called Civic Publishing. Our work is an act of love for this city, inviting residents to share their stories and write a new one together. Ambient Exploration is an exploratory wandering tour led by Sierra Grace (lushsuburb) of Downtown Miami.

Ambient Exploration is an exploratory wandering tour led by Sierra Grace (lushsuburb) of Downtown Miami’s ambiance and commercial archaeology, with the goal of encouraging participants to reclaim their neighborhoods via studying their surroundings for clues to the past, present, and future.While overviewing the roadside architecture, abandoned places, and new development of Downtown Miami, there will be occasional “survey stops" along the route where participants will act as amateur above ground archaeologists, documenting their surroundings via photography. The observational tools gained during their explorations will empower participants to become more informed, active citizens, who are able to champion key issues and contribute to the collective memories and histories of their neighborhoods.After the wandering tour, participants are invited to Over Under for an “Artender” experience where they will be guided to write poems inspired by what they saw and the images they captured. Her blasé approach to photographing the beauty found in day-to-day suburban banality blends elements of subtle humor with lush melancholia.
