MPDSL Saturday Basketball Leagues

The Metro Parks disABILITIES Programs are a collection of recreation-based programs designed for individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental disABILITIES.  Programs include Sports Leagues, Day Programs, Art Programs, Community Events, and more.All funds are collected and distributed by the Friends of Metro Parks disABILITIES & Magic Program.

Metro Parks disABILITIES Programs

Come and join the MPDSL Saturday Basketball Leagues.  These league will meet on Saturdays from 9:30-2:00 at West Park Community Center beginning on Saturday, February 1st and running for 5 consecutive weeks through February 29th.  We will host a Co-ed Traditional league (all individuals with IDD) and a Co-ed Inclusion league (teams will be made of up of athletes with and without disABILITIES).  Athletes may participate in both leagues if they are willing to play 2 games on Saturdays.  Athletes with disABILITIES must be 18 years of age or older with a valid sports physical completed within the last 3 years.  Inclusion athletes must be 18 years of age or older, and have a signed volunteer form to participate.  All athletes should come wearing athletic shorts and tennis shoes or rubber cleats (not required).  We will provide jerseys each week, and will collect and wash them at the end of each game day. 
We will host a Basketball Clinic to kick-off the season on January 18th.  Practice for the MPDSL Basketball Leagues will be held on Saturday, January 25th.  At this practice, we will announce teams and then each team will be given an opportunity to practice together.  Extra practices for athletes will be availabe Monday, Wednesday, & Thursdays from 10:00-11:45 and on Tuesdays from 9:15-10:45.  These practices are not required for participation on Saturdays, but are available for those who can attend.  For a complete schedule of practices, please contact Glen Adkins at golden.adkins@nashville.gov.

The Metro Parks disABILITIES Sports Leagues are designed for individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental disABILITIES and provide individuals an opportunity to play and compete with athletes of similar ability levels in a safe and fun atmosphere.
