Earth Week BioBlitz Wildlife Walk

Founded in 1967, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s mission is to protect and care for Southwest Florida's coastal ecosystems through its focus on Water Quality Research, Policy and Advocacy, Sea Turtles and Shorebirds, Native Landscaping, Habitat and Wildlife Management, and Environmental Education. SCCF is the largest private landowner on Sanibel Island. It manages 1,300 acres of land on Sanibel and Captiva and owns hundreds of additional acres in the Southwest Florida region. SCCF is proud to manage numerous public and non-public trails and preserves, a Native Landscape & Garden Center, Marine Laboratory, Sanibel Sea School, Coastal Watch volunteer program, and more.

Participate in SCCF's Earth Week BioBlitz by joining this guided wildlife walk on SCCF's Johnston Preserve!

Contribute to <a href="https://sccf.org/event/earth-day-bioblitz/" title="https://sccf.org/event/earth-day-bioblitz/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SCCF's 2024 Earth Week BioBlitz Project</a> on iNaturalist by taking part in this guided wildlife walk on Sanibel! Alongside SCCF biologists, participants will explore SCCF's Johnston Preserve in this walk focused on <a href="https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/sccf-earth-week-bioblitz-2024" title="https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/sccf-earth-week-bioblitz-2024" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">recording plant species via iNaturalist</a>.This beautiful preserve is normally not open to the public and the path is often overgrown with plenty of vines, including poison ivy. <ul><li>Due to very limited parking, participants should walk, bike, or carpool from SCCF’s Headquarters (3333 Sanibel Captiva Road) leaving at 8:45. Carpoolers will meet walkers and bikers at the entrance gate to Johnston Preserve (located on Casa Ybel Road across the street from Children's Education Center of the Islands) at 9 a.m., when we will enter the preserve and start the walk. The gate coordinates are 26.428832, -82.069919.</li><li>Participation in the SCCF's BioBlitz is encouraged, but not mandatory.
