Lecture outline: Posterior maxilla offers specific surgical challenges for implant treatment that must be carefully considered. Effective management of this area relies on addressing the issues of limited access, unique local anatomy, osseous deficits, and diverse prosthodontic requirements. Several surgical treatment approaches have been proposed to address these challenges while meeting the prosthodontic objectives. This lecture will outline key principles of effective immediate implant placement in the posterior maxilla with an emphasis on the use of very wide diameter implants.Speaker bio: Dr. Sam Strauss is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Toronto with a practice focus on immediate implant placement. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a fellow of the American Academy of Dentists. Dr. Strauss is a past president of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honors Dental Society and the H M Worth Radiology study club. He has taught at the University of Toronto in the areas of Oral Medicine, General Pathology, Prosthetic Dentistry, and is currently on staff in the Graduate Periodontics Department. Dr. Strauss is affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital and Baycrest Hospital. Light dinner will be provided.CE credits: 2 credits (category 2).
