Lecture outline: Prescription of medications in elderly has to be approached carefully due to higher possibility of drug interactions and delayed metabolism. At the same time, the elderly population is characterized by an increasing number of medical conditions and medications which may have a direct impact on dental management and prevalence of dental diseases. This presentation will explore the most commonly prescribed medications in the elderly with the goal of assisting the dentist in the management of this diverse group.Speaker bio: Dr. Aviv Ouanounou is an assistant professor of Pharmacology and Preventive Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. Dr. Ouanounou won numerous teaching awards for Excellence in Dental Education. Dr. Ouanounou is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fouchard Academy. He is a member of the American Academy of Pain Management and the American College of Clinical Pharmacology. He has published and authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.
