Porto is Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication at Tulane University in New Orleans. He is a political communication scholar who focuses on Brazil. He is the author of Mirrors of Whiteness: Media, Middle-Class Resentment, and the Rise of the Far Right in Brazil (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2023) and Media Power and Democratization in Brazil: TV Globo and the Dilemmas of Political Accountability (Routledge, 2012). His current research interests are centered on the rise of the far right, white resentment, and the centrality of domestic servants in the structuring of gender, racial, and class inequalities in Brazil.</blockquote>
