Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is of paramount importance in relation to public health and the environment, yet it has long been relegated to the periphery of policy formulation—only to recently resurface. The shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the issue of indoor air pollution into sharp relief. And this comes at a time when Europeans continue to spend around 90% of their time indoors, a habit unchanged from pre-pandemic times.Why, then, does IAQ remain an enigmatic policy matter? What historical factors have contributed to regulatory lapses in this area? And what are the hurdles in gathering the right evidence for the development of effective policies?In the light of these questions, the EDIAQI project will host its inaugural webinar: "Indoor Air Quality: Always a Bridesmaid, never a Bride”. This session will delve into the intricacies of IAQ, the interaction between indoor and outdoor air quality, and underscore the significance of data in shaping policies for healthier living environments. Throughout the discussion, we will examine current knowledge, potential health impacts from immediate symptoms to long-term conditions, and the EU policy framework.
