Poetry for the Pines: Guided Hike

Throughout the year, we teach poetry in schools, host a month-long festival, and publish poems in books and unexpected places like rooftops, billboards, and fences using a process called Civic Publishing. Our work is an act of love for this city, inviting residents to share their stories and write a new one together. A poetry workshop in reverence of the fragile flora and fauna endemic to South Florida.

Camp Owaissa Bauer

In celebration of ReWild Miami’s victory to block a destructive water park in Zoo Miami’s neighboring pine rockland forest, this event will begin with a guided hike through one of South Florida’s last remaining pine rockland forests led by ReWild Miami organizer, Zac Cosner, followed by a poetry workshop in reverence of the fragile flora and fauna endemic to South Florida, and culminating in a gathering by the fire. <ul><li>Sunday, April 21, 2024 | 3:30-5:30 pm</li><li>Camp Owaissa Bauer</li><li>Tiered pricing: <ul> Discounted - $15 This tier should be considered if the cost of the general admission ticket would prevent you from being able to attend this event. </ul> <ul> General Admission - $25 This tier is the regular, full price for the event. </ul> <ul> Support O, Miami - $50 This tier adds a donation cost to support O, Miami's programming. </ul></li></ul> Facilitator BiosAlexandra Martinez is a Cuban-American writer and filmmaker whose reporting spans such topics as the affordable housing crisis, art-washing, and worker’s rights. She received a B.A in Film Studies from Columbia University and is based in Miami where she lives with her young daughter and enjoys tending to her native pine rockland garden.Zac Cosner is a lifelong Miamian and environmental activist dedicated to the conservation of South Florida’s native ecology. Zac is a founding member of the miami pine rocklands coalition, and has represented a variety of environmental nonprofit organizations on issues ranging from land conservation to clean energy and clean water.
