The Meaningful Movies Project along with Fix Democracy First proudly presents an exclusive, free online screening of the thought-provoking documentary, John Lewis: Good Trouble by Dawn Porter. John Lewis: Good Trouble isn't just a film; it's a powerful call to action and a reminder why it’s important that we exercise our right to vote.John Lewis: Good Trouble is a documentary film that provides an intimate glimpse into the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of legendary U.S. Representative John Lewis. Spanning over six decades of remarkable activism, the film portrays Lewis's evolution from a bold teenager at the forefront of the Civil Rights movement to a formidable legislative force. It begins with Lewis's courageous plea to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for assistance in integrating a segregated school in his hometown of Troy, Alabama, a pivotal moment that cemented their close bond. From organizing Freedom Rides amidst violence and imprisonment to standing steadfastly at the forefront of historic marches in Washington and Selma, Lewis displayed resilience and determination. Throughout his journey, he championed the spirit of "good trouble," inspiring fellow Americans to confront injustice fearlessly. As the film chronicles Lewis's unparalleled commitment to justice and equality until his passing on July 17, 2020, it underscores his enduring message of hope and perseverance. Ms. Arnwine is internationally renowned for contributions on critical justice issues including the passage of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1991 and the 2006 reauthorization of provisions of the Voting Rights Act. She is also a founder of <a href="https://866ourvote.org/" title="https://866ourvote.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Election Protection</a>, the nation’s largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition.The <a href="https://www.raben.co/people/rev-dr-derrick-harkins" title="https://www.raben.co/people/rev-dr-derrick-harkins" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rev. Dr. Derrick Harkins</a> is a senior advisor with <a href="https://www.raben.co/" title="https://www.raben.co/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Raben</a>, a public affairs and organizational consulting firm, where he uses his extensive political and ministerial experience to help advance the firm's Faith Strategies Group. Prior to this position, Rev. Dr. Harkins was appointed by the Biden-Harris administration to serve as director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He also currently serves on the board of <a href="https://interfaithalliance.org/" title="https://interfaithalliance.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Interfaith Alliance</a>.<a href="https://www.washingtonbus.org/who-we-are/staff/" title="https://www.washingtonbus.org/who-we-are/staff/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cinthia Illan-Vazquez</a> is the Executive Director at <a href="https://www.washingtonbus.org/" title="https://www.washingtonbus.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Washington Bus</a>, a movement building organization that increases political access and participation for young people across WA. Prior to joining the Bus, Cinthia was the Community Engagement Manager at the Center for Education Results where she led and supported various community engagement efforts and strategies. Cinthia also served as legislative assistant to current Speaker of the WA State House of Representatives Laurie Jinkins, and as a community organizer with the Washington Dream Coalition, an undocumented and youth-led advocacy organization.
