About this event

A world-class soloist, accomplished composer, and formidable bandleader, Grammy nominated saxophonist Chris Potter has emerged as a leading light of his generation. Potter’s music showcases limitless creativity and a vibrant sense of swing, prompting critics, musicians, and fans alike to cite him as the one of the finest saxophonists today. The New Yorker calls Potter, “A tenorist who can remind you of Joe Henderson at his craftiest, he employs his considerable technique in the service of music rather than spectacle.” With his 2019 Edition Records release, Circuits, Potter made a return to groove, echoing music from his Underground era.

Chris Potter is the pinnacle of generations of saxophone talent. He blends Coltrane’s body of sound, Brecker’s pyrotechnical abilities, and Bird’s surgical yet liberated navigation of harmony, all with his own unmistakable voice and cadence. A modern jazz titan, Potter’s virtuosity and artistry has inspired a generation of musicians. He will be joined by two other preeminent musicians in today’s jazz landscape: drummer Kendrick Scott and bassist Matt Brewer.

“Daring yet precise, with clean edges and unexpected implications… he is something special”--DownBeat

“Prodigiously talented saxophonist Chris Potter doesn’t get quite as much ink as, say James Carter or Joshua Redman, but he could show those whiz kids a thing or two
