Woven Abstractions

Awakenings provides survivors of sexual violence with a trauma-informed, inclusive art-making experience that encourages healing.We believe the power of art-making as healing is amplified when we integrate into a creative community. We help survivors of sexual violence heal through art by providing year-round art workshops, storytelling events, and more at our studio space in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago. Our programming allows survivors to connect with each other through communal, healing arts activities in a safe, trauma-informed environment.

Woven Abstractions invites participants to weave on cardboard looms with traditional and non-traditional materials. Participants will also be asked to create watercolor paintings, drawings, or writings to shred, cut, or rip apart to include in their weavings.&nbsp;&nbsp;Teaching Artist Bryana Bibbs is a Chicago-based artist who works at the intersection of textiles, painting, and community-based practices. Bibbs earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Fiber and Material Studies at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the founder of “The We Were Never Alone Project - A Weaving Workshop for Victims and Survivors of Domestic Violence” and serves on the Surface Design Association’s Education Committee.&nbsp;&nbsp;Free with RSVP, Supplies, Light snacks &amp; drinks provided. Open to survivors and those impacted by sexual violence.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Thursday April 4th | 6:30-8:30pm | 4001 N.
