Founded in 1978 by dance and expressive arts therapy pioneers Anna Halprin and Daria Halprin, Tamalpa Institute is internationally recognized for its unique approach to movement, dance, and expressive arts therapy and education. We offer classes and programs throughout the year for people who wish to incorporate the embodied creativity of the arts into their personal lives and professional practices.

Founded by Anna and Daria Halprin, the Tamalpa Institute offers classes and programs throughout the year for people who wish to incorporate the embodied creativity of the arts into their personal lives and professional practices.

Mondays, April 8 - 2910am-11:30am Pacific Daylight Time (PDT)Cost: $80 for the seriesTamalpa does not record nor permit the recording of any classes or workshops due to the sensitive and sometimes vulnerable nature of the work, and to protect student privacy.Mondays, April 8 - 29As we go through seasonal changes, how can we invite pleasure, flexibility, and strength in our bodies?In this series we journey through the body’s landscape and find support as spring arrives. Using Anna Halprin’s somatic approach, we get in touch with ourselves physically, emotionally, and mentally, and discover our inner resources.“Movement Ritual is a form of self-healing… a gift to myself, of time and space, to do something for myself.” -Anna HalprinFrom the ground up, we explore traveling pathways through the spine, our central axis that connects to all body parts. Dancing with gravity, we fold and unfold, awakening our muscles, joints, and fluid body. As we rise and move through space, we listen to the rhythms of breath, let go of unnecessary tension and refresh our imagination.In opening our sensory awareness, we shift, shape, and carve dances that support and nourish us.Create a comfortable place to move and have writing and drawing materials on hand.No dance experience needed, only a willingness to explore!Artwork by Ana Liz CeregattiJoy Cosculluela (she/her) resides in the ancestral lands of the Ohlone people, otherwise known as SF Bay Area. Joy is a performing artist, somatic educator, and artistic director of Wayﬁnding Performance Group, a multicultural ensemble of artists in SF. She was associate teacher and dancer with Anna Halprin and The Sea Ranch Collective. Joy has collaborated with numerous Bay Area artists and has worked as guest teacher at SF State, University of Washington, Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants, Nature Talks, and Body-Mind Centering Association. She holds an MFA Interdisciplinary Arts from God-dard College, is artistic director of Performance Lab SF and is core faculty at Tamalpa Institute in Kent-field, CA.REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registration will close 1 hour prior to the start time of the first class.REFUNDS: will only be given if cancellation is received at least 48 hours before the start of the first class. Eventbrite's registration and processing fees are non-refundable. No partial refunds or transfers available.
