Mercado Cocina 2020 ~ Mole with Martha

Mercado on Fifth is an outdoor event from 5-10 p.m. every Friday on 5th Ave. between 11th and 12th streets in Moline. The weekly gathering features food trucks, produce/retail vendors, live entertainment and activities for children. Mercado’s 2019 summer season will run every Friday night from May 31 – Sept. 27. Mercado aims to attract more people to the Floreciente neighborhood and increase community involvement and pride by offering economic opportunities to small and minority-owned businesses. Patrons can enjoy cultural entertainment from area musicians, dance groups and artists. The market also provides learning opportunities for children and information about local nonprofits for adults.Join us at Mercado and be part of our mission to strengthen the community!

<DIV CLASS="_1mf _1mj">Mole is a concoction of different spices, chiles and delicacies and is a defining cultural staple of modern day Mexico. The recipe for mole varies from family to family, and it’s usually a well-kept secret passed down through generations. Ingredients tend to be completely different depending on the region of the country it’s made – but chiies, nuts, seeds and dried fruits are the most commonly used.</DIV>

<DIV CLASS="_1mf _1mj"><SPAN>Learn how to prepare homemade mole poblano with chicken, Mexican rice and traditional atole with Marth Nuñez. She is the grand prize winner of the 2019 Mercado Mole Cook-Off. Martha owns </SPAN><SPAN CLASS="_247o"><SPAN><SPAN>Taqueria Roly's</SPAN></SPAN></SPAN><SPAN> with her husband and started learning family recipes from a young age. </SPAN></DIV>
