Reginald DesRoches serves as the eighth president of Rice University and fulfills the roles of civil and environmental engineering and mechanical engineering professor. As president, he is responsible for up to 8,500 students students, eight schools, and 900 plus faculty members. Before this role, DesRoches was Rice's Howard Hughes Provost and William and Stephanie Sick Dean of Engineering.Under DesRoches' leadership, the university has seen the development and implementation of numerous new majors and professional master’s programs, including a new undergraduate business major and online programs. Rice has reached new levels of distinction nationally and internationally for impactful research, award-winning scholarship, and insightful creative work.
