WHRO Public Media and WORLD present a new documentary about life on the Eastern Shore and the challenges of living and working on the water 🌊WHRV's Lisa Godley will moderate a discussion after the screening, and she will be joined by a panel of experts as well as people who appeared in the film. Attendees will also enjoy giveaways and fun activities.Light refreshments and snacks will be provided free of charge for guests. Arrive early for an optional tour of the Elizabeth River Project Ryan Resilience Lab at 5:30pm!ABOUT THE FILM:“Against the Current” provides a powerful glimpse of how Virginia’s Eastern Shore residents are subject to the challenges of rising water’s effects on their lives and livelihood and through resilience and perseverance learn to co-exist and celebrate their rural home. How can this unique community shed light on the national conversations happening around these climate issues?"ABOUT THE ELIZABETH RIVER PROJECT RYAN RESILIENCE LAB: The environmental non-profit Elizabeth River Project has been working since 1993 to restore the health of the Elizabeth River through on-the-ground restoration, innovative environmental education, and equitable partnerships with diverse communities, businesses, and governments. Now, the Elizabeth River Project's new Ryan Resilience Lab serves as state-of-the-art, globally significant resilience model showcasing how we can protect both the ecosystem and humans as sea levels rise, incorporating replicable, environmentally sustainable design and construction. Check out cutting edge green building practices and systems – floating docks, green roofs, solar arrays, rainwater capture, and much more. See sustainability best practices in action and learn about the “planned retreat” that will allow the river to retake the site as sea levels continue to rise.
