Where is the retreat?

We will be in the Friends Meeting of Washington DC, located in NW Washington, DC. The retreat itself will take place in the Living Room of the house, and possibly outside as well, weather permitting.

How do I get there?

Directions and a map of the location are here: https://quakersdc.org/directions. You can park near the location, or take the Metro to Dupont Circle and it's a short walk from there.

Question 3

Will there be lunch?

We will break for lunch around noon. Please bring a lunch, snacks, and water with you (there's a fridge at the location), or there are many options for purchasing lunch nearby. We encourage people to bring lunch in order to not have to go outside the container of the retreat to go get lunch.

Should I bring a cushion?

Padded chairs will be provided as well as some mats and cushions, but if you prefer not to sit in a chair then you are encouraged to bring your own sitting materials.

Question 5

What if I can only be there for part of the retreat?

Accepted Answer

That is okay. The retreat will build on itself so it will be helpful to be there the whole time, but we understand people may have commitments they have to honor. We just ask that you come and go during the breaks in the schedule (not in the middle of meditations or talks).

What if I can't afford the retreat?

Accepted Answer

The cost of the retreat helps cover the cost of the venue, but we do offer a "pay what you can" option as low as $15 to help make the retreat accessible to all if there is a financial need. If you would like to pay less than $15, please email Jason.waterman@seedswewater.com.

Who are the teachers?

Accepted Answer

Jason is a long-time practitioner and teacher who aims to incorporate the Dharma into all aspects of his life, particularly his career as a licensed social worker and psychotherapist. Kate is a meditation and yoga teacher who also teaches and performs improv comedy in the DC area.

Question 9

Will the retreat be a silent retreat?

For much of the day, retreat participants will be in silence. Later in the day, there will be more interactive activities and sharing amongst participants. During lunch, we offer participants the choice in whether they practice noble silence or not.

Who is the retreat for?

Accepted Answer

This is for everyone. That said, in some cases, such as if you have undergone a recent traumatic experience or have severe mental health challenges that inhibit your day to day functioning, please consult a mental health professional or ask the retreat coordinators if this retreat is right for you.

What if I'm not feeling well the day of the retreat?

We ask that if you are sick, please stay home.
