Since 1976, the Rye Historical Society has engaged community members to learn about our little village and its significant role in the history of New Hampshire and the United States.In 2002, the Town Museum opened in the center of Town. The museum has ongoing and special exhibits  from May through October,  and programs for community education on topics related to the history of Rye throughout the year.In 2023, the society agreed to be the fiscal sponsor of Rye's 400th celebrations, working with the town and community to showcase the past 400+ years of history.RHS is a volunteer-led non-profit organization supported through memberships and donations.

Presenter: Guy Philbrick HadleyHerb Philbrick is well know as a counter spy, infiltrating the Communist party in the United States for the FBI in the 1940s. This program will discuss his third life; as a family man. The focus will be on his time in Rye and Seacoast New Hampshire, including Herb Philbrick's Store and Cott Quality Beverages. Mention will also be made of his six children with his wife Eva.Important information - There has been high interest in this event and the library is setting up an area upstairs for overflow where there will be a screen for people to view the presentation. Please plan to arrive early. Doors will open at 6:00pm. This presentation is also being recorded and will be available on our website in the future.
