Rockabilly Hall of Famer Marty Wendell, a bona fide country music star from right here in the North Country, pulls together roots, Americana and, of course, Rockabilly on stage and on his 18 albums, some recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis. In addition to fronting his own band, he has toured with some of the biggest names in the music business, including Johnny Cash. Tonight’s 60th Anniversary Retrospective brings us the songs and stories old and new, classics and originals, that have shaped his remarkable life in music.
Marty Wendell has been making music for 60 years. He grew up in a time when radio stations played many genres of music but the music that impacted him the most came from the artists who recorded for Sun Records and gave birth to Rock & Roll. He also developed a love of Country Music as well. Throughout his career he has covered a wide variety of songs and has written many of the songs that he has recorded. His concerts pull together Roots, Americana and Rockabilly influences. In the mid 60’s he also played in Greenwich Village Coffeehouses where people were hungry for original songs. He continued to develop his songwriting craft and began his recording career in New York City. He has recorded 18 albums, two of which were Grammy contenders for Best Americana Album. He will have new releases in 2024 including an Early Years compilation. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the music business.
In 2024 Marty will share the songs and stories that have shaped his music. He will bring songs both old and new, both classics and originals. “Marty Wendell is a living connection to Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and the early Sun artists.” His concerts have something for everyone!
“These days record stores are full of folks trying to sound retro, but Wendell is just being himself - he doesn’t have to go back, cause he never left.” – Dave Malachowski, Daily Freeman
Special guest artists The Bluebillies will join in celebrating this 60th Anniversary show, with a performance by Greg Bucking honoring Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash’s recording of “Girl From The North Country.”
