The Spatial Media Lab e.V. is a Berlin-based Verein focused on making spatial media more accessible. In this masterclass we will demonstrate how to use free resources available online to start composing music and designing sounds in ambisonics using Reaper and the IEM Plugin Suite. Over the next 2.5 hours you’ll get an introduction to the process of creating audio for 3D and hear how it will sound on our 8.1.4 speaker setup. If you would like to be prepared for the workshop, please use the links below to download and install the free softwares to follow along. Afterwards we will answer any questions you may have, so dig in early and explore! Meet your instructors Spatial Media Lab e.V.We’re here to make spatial media easier to create, open to explore, and greater to enjoy. We’re connecting art, science, and engineering by building bridges between the experts in these fields. Our community exists to build and share its knowledge, all open source to the core.For this project, we have worked with artist Ross Alexander to realize his first piece in ambisonics. We will showcase in the presentation how to create an ambisonic soundscape using (mostly) free and open source tools in Reaper. <a href="https://spatialmedialab.org/" title="https://spatialmedialab.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://spatialmedialab.org/</a>  Ross AlexanderIn a continuation of his recent work in creating ‘imagined and abstracted industrialsonic landscapes’ Ross Alexander will work with a combination of environmentalrecordings and recorded and found sounds alongside digitally created tonalmaterial to build a gradually evolving immersive soundscape in Ambisonic sound.The work draws directly on influences from minimalist electro-acoustic techniqueand Mono-ha art practice to explore the relationship between structure, materialand sonics in making hauntological reference to the artist’s experience growing up inpost Industrial Northern England.
