Jewish and Muslim Day of Community Service: Ask Me Anything (AMA)

The Jewish and Muslim Day of Community Service was developed in 2010 out of a partnership between the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis and the Jewish Community Relations Council. The event takes place on Christmas to give recurring volunteers the opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families, while also strengthening the relationship between the Jewish and Muslim communities. Now in its 7th year, the program has continued to grow year after year and we are excited and grateful to have you here with us!

Participants consistently cite the interactions and informal conversations with volunteers from different faiths, neighborhoods, cultural or ethnic backgrounds as some of their most memorable Day of Service moments.
To help facilitate more of those conversations, we’re inviting participants to an open-ended (but guided) conversation facilitated by leaders from the Muslim and Jewish communities: Dr. Ghazala Hayat, a Saint Louis University neurology professor and member of the Islamic Federation of Greater St. Louis; and Cantor Josh Finkel, spiritual leader of Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Community.
Taking a page from the online discussion site Reddit, this dialogue will take the form of an Ask Me Anything (AMA) conversation: a chance to learn about your neighbors’ history, culture, conventions and concerns in an informative, respectful, engaging and interactive format. Capacity: 100 participants. Walk-ins accepted if space available.
Location: Tafseer Room.
