Sustainable Solano is a grassroots, countywide movement uniting people through work that aims to serve the future of Solano County, to promote ecologically regenerative, economically and socially just communities in a world that works for everyone. We nurture initiatives for the good of the whole. Sustainable Solano has grown out of decades of dedicated community work that started with community gardens and has grown to include an emphasis on creating sustainable, regenerative environments, community capacity building, supporting local food systems and building youth leadership and workforce skills for a better future.

Tour our demonstration food forest gardens in Benicia & Vallejo!

Have you ever seen a food forest? Are you interested in growing your own food or want to replace your lawn with a more sustainable landscape? Join our annual Food Forest Tour! Do not miss out on the chance to tour our demonstration edible gardens fed by secondary water (roofwater and/or laundry-to-landscape greywater system) in Benicia and Vallejo!Learn simple techniques that you can apply to your own yard to create a vibrant, food-producing ecosystem using water wisely.Ask our food forest keepers questions, enjoy the gardens, be inspired and get ideas on how you can work these design principles into your own yard!<h3>How it will work:</h3>You can choose to tour for the whole day or for half a day on Saturday, April 27Benicia Demonstration Food Forest Gardens will be open 10-1 pmVallejo Demonstration Food Forest Gardens will be open 1-4 pm <h3>Itinerary pickup and special events</h3><ul><li>9-11 am: A detailed itinerary with garden locations will be distributed at Avant Garden in Benicia (400 First St.) This itinerary will include all of the demonstration food forest gardens in Benicia (open in the morning) and Vallejo (open in the afternoon).
