Lecture: ‘Pioneers of Modern Architecture and Design since Independence in Sri Lanka’ with C. Anjalendran

Architect and educator C. Anjalendran speaks from his long-term research on Modern Architecture and Design in Sri Lanka, and how these disciplines have been shaped by pioneers including Minnette De Silva (1918–1998). Anjalendran’s practice and research address immediate concerns of postcolonial Sri Lankan architecture followed by the circumstances of the civil war, which many architects of the time had to negotiate.This Lecture is offered as part of the Public Programmes of the exhibition ‘88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva’, on view until 7 July 2024. වාස්තු විද්‍යාඥයෙකු හා අධ්‍යාපනඥයෙකු වන සී. අන්ජලේන්ද්‍රන්, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ නූතන වාස්තු විද්‍යාව හා නිර්මාණ සැලසුම්කරණය පිළිබඳව සිය දීර්ඝ කාලීන පර්යේෂණය ගැන හා මිනෙට් ද සිල්වා (1918–1998) වැනි පුරෝගාමීන් විසින් මෙම විෂයයන් හැඩගැස්වූ ආකාරය පිළිබඳව කතා කරයි. අන්ජලේන්ද්‍රන්ගේ ව්‍යවහාරය හා පර්යේෂණ, එවකට වාස්තු විද්‍යාඥයින් බොහෝ දෙනෙකු මුහුණදුන් පශ්චාත් යටත් විජිත ශ්‍රී ලාංකික වාස්තු විද්‍යාවේ වහා අවධානය යොමුකළ යුතුව තිබූ කරුණු හා සිවිල් යුද්ධයේ තත්ත්ව ආමන්ත්‍රණය කරයි.මෙම දේශනය 2024 ජූලි 7 දක්වා නැරඹීමට ඇති ‘අක්කර 88: මිනෙට් ද සිල්වා විසින් කළ වටපුළුව නිවාස යෝජනා ක්‍රමය’ ප්‍රදර්ශනයේ මහජන වැඩසටහන්වල කොටසක් වෙයි. கட்டடக் கலைஞரும் கல்வியாளருமான சி. அஞ்சலேந்திரன், இலங்கையில் நவீன கட்டடக்கலை மற்றும் வடிவமைப்பு பற்றிய தனது நீண்டகால ஆராய்ச்சியைக் குறித்து பேசுகையில், மினெட் டி சில்வா (1918–1998) உள்ளிட்ட முன்னோடிகளால் இந்த துறைகள் எவ்வாறு வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன என்பதனையும் அவர் எடுத்துக்காட்டுவார். அக்கால கட்டடக் கலைஞர்கள் பலர் முகம்கொடுக்க வேண்டியிருந்த பின்காலனித்துவ இலங்கையின் கட்டடக்கலை சார்ந்த உடனடி சிக்கல்கள், மற்றும் அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து, உள்நாட்டுப் போரின் சூழ்நிலைகள் ஆகியவற்றை அஞ்சலேந்திரனின் தொழில் மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி விவரிக்கின்றன.7 ஜூலை 2024 வரை பார்வைக்கு வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள ‘88 ஏக்கர்கள்: மினெட் டி சில்வாவின் வடபுழுவ வீட்டுத் திட்டம்’ கண்காட்சியின் பொது நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் ஒன்றாக இவ் விரிவுரை வழங்கப்படுகிறது.
