reGEN Film Club is a curated series of film and discussion, bringing deeper connections to the art of film and to the world around us.

We are excited to invite you to join year four of the reGEN Film Club (previously known as Dawning Portal), a series of curated films gives you an opportunity to watch, digest, and discuss films through the lens of different perspectives. Expect to meet or deepen your relationship to both the film and Club community through these 75-minute discussions. Think of it like a book club, but for movies!Join us for a year-long exploration of the world through new stories worth watching. Of course, the journey is taken from your couch, your desk, your bed, your favorite chair, your favorite perch.It is hassle free for you- no more perusing pages and pages of offerings to decide what is worth watching- and we hope it’s relatively hassle free for us! We are doing this in the spirit of community, curiosity and comfort! Well, maybe a little discomfort too.We hope you will join us on this adventure!How it works:<ul><li>Our host, 15-time award-winning filmmaker, author, speaker, and woman in film activist, <a href="https://www.naomimcdougalljones.com/" title="https://www.naomimcdougalljones.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Naomi McDougall Jones</a> - or one of the other <a href="https://www.regenimpactmedia.com/regenerative-filmmakers/" title="https://www.regenimpactmedia.com/regenerative-filmmakers/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">6 reGEN Filmmakers</a> - will send out 2 film options each month, which members will vote on, and...</li><li>You can watch the selected film <a href="https://www.regenimpactmedia.com/regenerative-filmmakers/" title="https://www.regenimpactmedia.com/regenerative-filmmakers/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">reGEN Filmmakers</a> online at your convenience (we will provide information as to where you can find it).</li><li>We will then have a 75-minute discussion group together (Sundays from 7:45-9pm Eastern Time)</li></ul>What to expect during our discussion:<ul><li>We'll kick things off with opening remarks from that month's film curator and/or filmmaker- in conversation with our host, Naomi McDougall Jones</li><li>From there, you will be sent into a randomly assigned breakout group, so you'll get a chance to get to know and hear from a wide variety of viewpoints.</li><li>Naomi will provide each group with a series of questions that will help guide your group's discussion of the film.</li><li>We will then come back together into the main room for a larger discussion on an additional thought-provoking question.</li><li>Finally, we'll wrap with our collective rating of the film, our own thumbs up or rotten tomatoes, so to speak.</li></ul>Discussion dates for the year:Our discussions will always be 7:45-9pm Eastern Time (4:45- 6pm Pacific Time). FAQsWhat sort of films will we be watching?We will offer a range of films, representing a broad diversity of filmmakers and topics, as well as a mix of genres. These will be films from the past and present that may not have received widespread mainstream release and that you, therefore, might easily have missed seeing. Each month, two film options will be presented to all annual members who will be given the opportunity to vote on which film will be viewed and discussed. How long will the films be? They will range from roughly 60 to 120 minutesWho is curating of the films? The films will be curated each month by one of the <a href="https://www.regenimpactmedia.com/regenerative-filmmakers/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">6 reGEN Filmmakers</a>.E﻿ach month will be hosted by 15-time award-winning filmmaker and Global Artistic Director of reGEN media, <a href="https://www.naomimcdougalljones.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Naomi McDougall Jones</a>.Can I suggest a film? Yes, of course! We cannot guarantee that every recommended film will make it onto the list, but we are happy to take all suggestions into consideration.Where will I watch the films?We will send information as to where you can find the film ahead of time ( ie netflix, prime, acorn, hulu, itunes, google play, etc.) so that you can watch ahead of the discussion. Is the cost of watching the films themselves covered by my Dawning Portal membership fee?The short answer is, "No. There's, unfortunately, no way for us to be able to do that because we don't own the rights to the films and films are now captured exclusively by streaming platforms, for the most part."We will select films that are available on the most commonly-used streaming platforms and/or that are available to rent for $2.99 (or so) on platforms like iTunes and Amazon. If viewing any film presents a true difficulty or financial hardship for any member, please let us know and we will do our best to support you in finding a viewing solution!How long will the discussion be?75 minutes.How many members in the film club? The beauty of this format is that we break out into intimate discussion groups through breakout rooms. So, no matter how much the membership grows, everyone will have a space for their voices to be heard.What does the fee go towards? I﻿t covers the time and resources of the curators of the films, our host, and a donation to the work of <a href="https://www.regenimpactmedia.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">reGEN media</a> - the first and only Indigenous-owned and female-led regenerative media studio.. Can I join on any platform other than Zoom? No, we'll be using Zoom as the primary platform for our discussions.If I miss a film or want to cancel after the first session, will I be reimbursed? While we will allow refunds leading up to the 1st session, memberships are not eligible for refunds after the 1st session.How do I pay? Purchase the "2024 Annual Membership" ticket through Eventbrite, and you'll gain access to all of the 2024 dates. Can I have others on my zoom watch the film with me, ie my partner, daughter? Yes, but we ask that you keep the discussions to the primary member.Who do I contact if I’m having technical difficulty?We will be available 30 minutes before any session to offer general orientation to discussion guide and session links, but will be limited in servicing issues beyond that (for example, we may be challenged in resolving why your sound/video/wifi isn't working on your device, but will happily send you the session link if you misplaced it)
