AAUW Sacramento Speech Trek Contest 2024

AAUW Sacramento was organized in 1920 and has over 250 members working towards the same goal of Breaking through Barriers for Women and Girls.Members enjoy working toward a common goal while experiencing intellectual growth and creating a network of friends through branch programs and events.  AAUW Sacramento offers the opportunity to get involved in many philanthropic programs:Local Scholarships that support women attending or returning to collegePublic Policy issues that have a direct impact on women and girlsOutreach including College/University Partner Member Program, Speech Trek, Start Smart, and Tech TrekAmerican Association of University Women (AAUW) is a nationwide network of more than 150,000 members and donors, 1,000 branches, and 700 college/university institution partners.  Since being founded in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. AAUW Speech Trek Contest for high school students in the Sacramento area

The 17th Annual Speech Trek contest will be held on February 10, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In lieu of holding an in-person contest, we will hold the contest via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent 2 days prior to registered attendees.Students from the Elk Grove Unified High School District will be participating in the contest. The topic this year is “If an educated population is essential to a nation’s prosperity, then how can we ensure a robust public school curriculum that is accessible to all and teaches historically accurate information?” Students will be delivering 5-6 minute speeches for cash prizes.We hope to see you on Zoom for interesting speeches on this important topic!
