Our reading tonight is a performance and a deep honoring of the earth that is all of our home.

As poet Rafael Gonzalez put it, “the Mother is so wounded that her fever threatens all.” Tonight, five poets will come together to read love poems for the earth. The event is curated by Rafael Jesus Gonzalez and features readings by Arnoldo García, Mary Mackey, Naomi Quinonez, and Nynke Passi.Rafael Jesus Gonzalez is the current Poet Laureate of Berkeley, CA and once lectured at MIU in the 1970s. Professor Emeritus of Creative Writing &amp; Literature, he taught at the University of Oregon, Western State College of Colorado, Central Washington State University, the University of Texas El Paso, and Laney College, Oakland where he founded the Mexican and Latin American Studies Dept.
