About this event

Please join us for the 7th Annual Sound Support Conference! We are excited to welcome our keynote speaker, Ivette Cejas, Ph. D. who will present on mental health with hearing loss. Dr. Cejas is a licensed Psychologist, Director of Family Support Services, and Associate Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology at the University of Miami Ear Institute.

Featured Presentation: The Power of Parents & Positive Mental Health: What You Need to Know to Support Your Families

Parents play a key role in children’s overall development and long-term success. This conference will discuss the effects of parenting stress, mental health challenges, and involvement on pediatric hearing loss outcomes. Strategies that providers and educators can use to identify and coach parents on how to cope or reduce stressors will also be reviewed. Lastly, the importance of mental health screening in children, as well as brief interventions that can be incorporated into the classroom or therapy session will be discussed.

Additional presentations will include new research on referral guidelines for cochlear implant candidacy for children with the speech intelligibility index (SII) by Gabrielle Watson, Au.D. and a Q &A panel with our Sound Support Audiologists and Listening and Spoken Language Specialists.

Due to anticipated high demand and limited space- this workshop registration will be on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis for audiologists, speech-language pathologists, teacher consultants for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, and teachers.
