The Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association (BBLA), established in 1891, was founded as an umbrella organization representing approximately eighty Czech and Slovak cultural, educational and athletic community groups and clubs.The original mission of the BBLA was and continues to preserve the Czech and Slovak culture in New York City. Karel Gott (July 14, 1939 – October 1, 2019)Celebration of Life Join us in honoring Karel Gott, voted the Czech best male singer in the annual Cesky slavik national music award 42 times, most recently in 2017. Over the course of his career he released over 100 albums and 100 compilation albums. In 2009 he was awarded a Distinguished Merit Medal by the Czech state.ProgramShort films from Karel Gott’s concert at Carnegie Hall and his professional career, performance by Czech swing singer Jan Smigmator, refreshments by Zlata PrahaThis event is organized by the Association of Free Czechoslovak Sportsmen, Zlata Praha Productions and the Czech Center New York, with support of BBLA, Pilsner Urquell and Brouczech.
