This event has been rescheduled from February 8 to February 22As we consider sustainable practices and products across the profession, we should consider what happens to them once they reach end of useful life as well as the disposal of construction waste. Join us in conversation with John Welch, Director of the Dane County Department of Waste and Renewables regarding the Madison construction waste ordinance, local recycling facility programs and capability, and future initiatives. This AIA/CSI joint event will address what is reasonable to specify in local construction projects.Learning Objectives:<ul><li>Identify the construction materials that can and cannot be recycled at local facilities.</li><li>Describe how construction waste is recycled.</li><li>Identify what language is appropriate to include in building specifications to ensure materials are recycled.</li><li>Explore the requirements of the Madison Construction Waste Ordinance.</li><li>Identify whether requirements are being followed on a construction site.</li></ul>Doors open at 4:30pm, presentation 5-6pm, reception 6-7pm (cash bar and appetizers).1 LU/HSWHosted by AIA Southwest Wisconsin and CSI MadisonFree and open to public. John Welch is the Director of the Dane County Department of Waste &amp; Renewables. He has a BS from UW Madison in Civil &amp; Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in construction management. He and his staff oversee operations of one active and two closed landfills; a construction &amp; demolition recycling facility; a year-round household hazardous waste facility; a landfill gas-to-electricity system; and a landfill gas to renewable vehicle fuel operation. Recent and current projects have focused on sustainability, renewable energy, and moving toward responsible resource management. The Waste &amp; Renewable team is currently working on permitting and planning for a future landfill and sustainable business campus in Madison.
