Join us for a workforce development training on Determining Decisional Capacity &amp; Consent of the Older AdultPresented by: Nirmala Dhar, MSW LCSW ACSWNirmala Dhar is a licensed clinical social worker with a Master’s degree in Social Work from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, Washington University (St.Louis, MO) and Bombay University, India.She has 30 years of experience in behavioral health and currently coordinates the Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative for the Oregon Health Authority‘s Health Systems Division. Prior to this, she was with Clackamas County Behavioral Health Services for 18 years. Ten of those years were spent as the geriatric mental health specialist for Clackamas County.Her areas of professional interest include: positive aging; social justice; quality improvement; health metrics; and health transformation.Learning Objectives:•Definition of capacity•Gain knowledge of types of capacity•Identify individuals at risk for impaired decision making•Identify the core ethical tension involved when individuals refuse professional recommendations•Know how to access for decisional capacityThis is a part of the 2024 Geriatric Competencies Series -- A free monthly workforce development training series focusing on geriatric competencies for medical and mental health professionals and paraprofessionals who work with older adults.
