(CAST-BOSTON) Theme: Cross-cutting Innovations Summit

The Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST, www.cast-usa.org) is a non-profit, non-governmental professional society established in New York in 1992. CAST now has more than 8,000 current members across the United States. CAST-Boston, the Boston branch of CAST, focuses on serving the American Chinese community in the Great Boston area by cultivating cross-disciplinary collaborations between scientists and engineers, promoting technology transition from research laboratories to industry, and providing a venue for professional networking in the Greater Boston area.中国旅美科技协会(旅美科协，the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, CAST, www.cast-usa.org)是1992年在纽约成立的非政治性,非盈利性的民间团体,现有会员8000余人。美国大波士顿地区历史悠久，是美国的重要经济区之一,也是最有文化价值的地区，是高等教育，科研创新，医疗保健,及文化体育的中心。大波士顿地区坐拥Harvard University, MIT, Tufts University, Brandies University, Boston College，Boston University等122所高等院校，在位于该地区的世界著名大学Harvard和MIT校园周围，聚集着Biogen-Idec, Genzyme, Millennium, Vertex, Genetic Institute等数百家以创新药物研发为目标的生物医药公司。除此之外，世界上销售额排名前十位，甚至前二十位的制药公司基本上都在该地区设立了研发基地，包括Novartis, Pfizer, GSK, Merck, AstraZeneca，BMS, Abbott，Amgen等。因此大波士顿地区聚集了数万名从事生物医药研究的高科技人才，科研资金雄厚，以U.S. News & World Report中综合医院排名第一的哈佛医学院麻省总医院(MGH)为例，它拥有世界上所有医院中规模最大的科研项目，仅此一家医院就拥有年度科研基金7.5亿美元。同时，大波士顿地区吸引了众多科技和风险投资，企业资金充沛，融资渠道广泛，仅2014一年之内就吸引风险投资18亿美元，是名符其实的美国生物医学研究及产业化的重镇。旅美科协波士顿分会传承了旅美科协总会促进中美科技和学术交流的宗旨，专注于推动学术成果向产业转化，探讨科技创新的不同模式，立志打造大波士顿地区对接优秀科技项目，企业界人才和资本的平台。

Meeting starts at 10AMWe live in an exciting era which has been shaped by disruptive technologies covering every aspect of life: AI, robotics, nanotechnology, 3D printing, and new biomedicine. These emerging technologies often transcend the traditional boundaries between disciplines and call for cross-cutting innovations, which are only possible through collaborations between scientists and technologists with diverse backgrounds. The Summit will feature a cohort of distinguished speakers representing the leaders of their respective fields, convening under the theme of “cross-cutting innovations” to foster interdisciplinary exchanges and spark new insights and innovations.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERSShing-Tung Yau has made fundamental contributions to differential geometry which have influenced a wide range of scientific disciplines, including astronomy and theoretical physics. Yau solved a longstanding question in Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity by proving that the sum of the energy in the universe is positive; their proof has provided an important tool for understanding how black holes form. In 1982 Yau was awarded the Fields Medal, the highest award in mathematics, and in 1994 he shared with Simon Donaldson of Oxford University the Crafoord Prize of the Royal Swedish Society, in recognition of his “development of nonlinear techniques in differential geometry leading to the solution of several outstanding problems. Dr. Wolfgang Ketterle, Nobel Laureate, John MacArthur Professor of Physics at MIT, Director, MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms, Associate Director, Research Laboratory of Electronics. In 1995, Wolfgang Ketterle and his colleagues have cooled a sodium gas to the lowest temperature ever recorded: only half-a-billionth of a degree above absolute zero, which is -273.15°C (-459.67°F), and actually unreachable. For this achievement, as well as early fundamental studies of condensates, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2001.The coldest place on the earth is not at the North Pole or South Pole, but in his lab at MIT. Constance Lehman is Professor of Radiology, Harvard Medical School. As a change agent, innovator, and pioneer in the domain of Artificial Intelligence implementation in clinical medical practice, my work applies artificial intelligence and advanced methods of deep learning to improve breast cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment. In collaboration with colleagues at MIT, my lab and clinical center is applying AI to deliver higher quality health outcomes at lower costs for the full diversity of patients at risk for and with cancer. This is a continuation of my career-long commitment to expand access for all patients globally to highest quality, patientcentered, affordable care. Jin-rong Zhou Associate Professor, Surgery, Harvard Medical School, Director, Nutrition/Metabolism in Laboratory, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He will provide a critical overview of scientific evidence to support significant roles of nutritional manipulation in the development, progression, metastasis and recurrence of cancer, and make appropriate dietary recommendations. Y. Shrike Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Associate Bioengineer in the Division of Engineering in Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Zhang is directing the Laboratory of Engineered Living Systems, where the research is focused on innovating medical engineering technologies, including 3D bioprinting, organs- onchips, microfluidics, and bioanalysis, to recreate functional tissues and their biomimetic models, for applications in regenerative medicine and personalized medicine. He is an author of &gt;170 peerreviewed publications and his scientific contributions have been recognized by more than 40 international, national, and regional Awards. Yide Alan Jiang, M.D, Ph.D. as Chief Strategy Officer, Board Director of XtalPi, bear primary responsibility for the company's strategy development including identification of growth opportunities, strategic planning and execution. He joined Xtalpi in 2015 bringing over fifteen years of scientific and research management experience, most of it gained in positions of increasing responsibility at Genzyme and then Sanofi-Genzyme. Prior to joining XtalPi, Dr. Jiang was the director of Asia R&amp;D Strategy of the Sanofi-Genzyme R&amp;D Center. Dr. Jiang received his medical degree and doctorate in molecular biology followed by post-doctoral research in hematology and oncology at Brigham &amp; Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
