Faith, Functioning, and Bowen Theory

The mission of the Centeris to lead the development of Bowen family systems theory into a science of human behavior and to assist individuals, families, communities, and organizations in solving major life problems through understanding and improving human relationships. The Center carries out its mission locally, nationally, and internationally through its training programs, conferences, research, clinical services, audiovisual materials, and publications. The Georgetown Family Center is an educational, research, and clinical center incorporated as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization in the District of Columbia.

Faith, Functioning, and Bowen Theory Wednesday, April 10-Thursday, April 11, 2024 Hybrid Conference: In-Person in Arlington, VA or OnlineBowen theory engages a wide audience. Many in traditions of faith have found the theory central to how they think about themselves and their relationships with others, offering insights into theology and the practice of care and counseling, leadership, teaching, and research.Faith, Functioning, and Bowen Theory will explore the implications of Bowen theory specifically for communities of faith. It is intended for anyone with a professional or personal interest in this area. The conference will be held in-person at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Arlington, VA or Online. CE/CEUs are available in social work and counseling and lunch will be provided to in-person attendees.The conference’s featured speaker is John Haught, PhD, emeritus faculty and distinguished Research Professor at Georgetown University, Washington DC. Dr. Haught's area of specialization is systematic theology with a particular interest in issues pertaining to science, cosmology, evolution, ecology and religion.This event offers an opportunity to discover how our faith influences our functioning and gain insights into Bowen theory, a powerful framework for understanding human behavior and relationships. In addition to the featured speaker and a full roster presenters with extensive background in Bowen theory, this two day conference includes ample time for thought-provoking discussions and interactive sessions.Registration DetailsArlington Location Unitarian Universalist Church 4444 Arlington Boulevard Arlington, VA 22204 The location offers free parking and is accessible to public transportation.
