Join us to explore the local legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, and Juanita J. Craft, at Fair Park and in the South Dallas community

<h3>Join Preservation Dallas; Remembering Black Dallas; the African American Museum of Dallas; Broadway Dallas; McCoy Collaborative, a TreanorHL Company; Friends of the Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House and Museum; BH365; and the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture, as we honor and explore the local lecacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, and Juanita J. Craft.</h3> Our symposium will feature two speakers panels at the African American Museum at Fair Park:The first panel, entitled "MLK in Dallas: Dr. King's Visits, and the Community Response," will look at Dr. King's specific visits to Dallas; the context of his trips here; why he wasn't here more often; and his legacy in the city. This panel will feature Dr. Marilyn Calhoun; Edward Gray; Jackie McMillan Hill; Rev. Peter Johnson; and Dr. Michael Phillips. It will be moderated by acclaimed artist Vicki Meek.The second panel, "It Starts With Me: Youth Activism in 21st-Century Dallas," will feature youth leaders who will speak about their current activism, and the legacy of Dr. King and Mrs. Craft among Dallas youth. It will be moderated by Mia Street, Executive Director of BH365 Education Foundation.Each panel will run twice: a morning session from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and an afternoon session from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

<h4>In addition to the panels, symposium attendees will attend the following tours and activities:</h4> <ul><li>Tours of the Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House and Museum, focused on Mrs. Craft’s life, career, and activism, as well as the preservation and restoration of the house</li></ul> <ul><li>Tours of the Music Hall at Fair Park (where Dr. King spoke in 1963), including a visit to the SOUTH DALLAS STORIES: UPROOTED exhibit in the Music Hall lobby</li></ul> <ul><li>Volunteer Docents at Fair Park’s former Grand Ave Gate (now an interior gate, inside Gate 5), where Juanita Craft led the 1955 NAACP protest to integrate the State Fair of Texas</li></ul> <ul><li>Opportunity to visit the exhibits currently on view at the African American Museum</li></ul>

Free Tickets are available for Youth and Students.Tickets are Pay-What-You-Wish for Adults, with a minimum donation of $1, and a suggested donation of $10. On the ticketing page on EventBrite, please SCROLL DOWN to view Adult ticket options, which appear below the Youth/Student options.Due to a quirk in the EventBrite donation ticketing system, only one ticket may be booked in each ticket category at a time. For multiple tickets, you will likely need to make multiple bookings. We apologize for the inconvenience.Registration will open at 9:30 a.m.Lunch will be provided to all attendees, courtesy of Texas Capital.Shuttle service is available from Fair Park to and from the Juanita Craft House, provided by Fair Park First.Please be outside the African American Museum, ready to board your shuttle to the Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House and Museum, at the time printed on your ticket.Due to capacity constraints on the shuttle and at the Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House and Museum, alternate tour times may not be available if you miss your shuttle.
