How do we change? Word by word, bird by bird, according to Anne LaMott in her writing book classic, Bird By Bird: Some Instructions for Writing and Life. In this Spring Series (daytime) we will build on the transformation themes we explored in our fall classes as we continue to celebrate our tenth year of offering writing circles in Jacksonville. For 12 weeks, we will explore the art of a change through the lens of this funny and brilliant writer, diving deep into her instructions on both writing and life.In this series, we will be surrounded by the art of our latest exhibition, Metamorphosis: The Art of (a) Change, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville in North Florida. Our first formal class was held in January of 2014; Bird By Bird was the book we used to inspire our writing circles that spring. LaMott’s advice in the 25th anniversary of her book is more relevant than ever, and will inspire any one to better writing and a better life. By taking this series, you'll have a chance to sharpen your craft and technique in our small-group circles. You can bring whatever project you're working on and expect good feedback from people you can trust.BACKGROUNDWomen Writing for (a) Change® was founded in 1991 by Mary Pierce Brosmer, a practicing poet and former English teacher. She developed WWf(a)C to encourage women to find their voices, speak their truths, and tell their stories in a world in which they were often silenced. (womenwriting.org).The Jacksonville-affiliated school was established in 2014 by Jennifer Wolfe, evolving into a non-profit in 2018, and adding three new faculty members in 2019-2020.
