The Center for Children and Youth—Child Training Institute (CTI) provides in-depth training to social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals who seek knowledge in the latest treatments and techniques to help their young patients.CTI hosts events virtually and at our San Francisco location. Trainings are open to the public and include continuing education credits for qualified participants. Overview:Join us for a comprehensive three-hour workshop focused on the law and ethics of telehealth, a necessary requirement for LMFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs license renewal in California. In the digital era, the assimilation of technology into therapeutic practices is accelerating. This workshop provides an extensive guide to maneuver the legal and ethical complexities of technology in clinical practice. We will cover a broad spectrum of topics, including telehealth prerequisites, practicing across state borders, and the utilization of email, texting, and social media. Stay up to date with recent modifications in state law and strategies to address prevailing ethical dilemmas. This workshop centers around case examples to illustrate how to think through legal and ethical issues when they occur in your practice.&nbsp;This training will consist of:<ol><li>An overview of best practices in terms of setting up a virtual practice.</li><li>HIPAA guidelines and pragmatic guidance regarding practice needs.</li><li>Legal and ethical guidelines—both in general and specific to the state of California—covering such topics as informed consent, privacy, and ethical considerations.</li><li>Clinical considerations, including how to evaluate who is appropriate for virtual treatment, tips on enhancing the therapeutic alliance, and suggestions on being more creative with the technological capabilities. Recommendations and strategies for working with specific populations will be discussed.</li></ol>Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:<ul><li>Describe the risks and best practices in telemental health.</li><li>Identify ethical issues involved in telehealth service delivery via text, email, and software platforms.</li><li>Recognize risk management and ethical conduct in telemental health with children, couples, families, and groups, and those experiencing suicidality.</li></ul>

About the Trainers:Glenn Marks, PhD, MBA, obtained his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Iowa with a dual emphasis in neuro and health psychology. Dr. Marks spent much of his early career in both private practice and working as a staff psychologist in the Carondelet Health system in the departments of physical medicine and rehabilitation.Throughout his clinical work, Dr. Marks completed treatment and evaluations through his work in both public and for-profit hospitals, the Veterans Administration, Department of Defense, the State of Arizona and the University of Arizona. He oversaw the TBI treatment center at Ft Huachuca, AZ, where he and his team developed protocols for evaluation and treatment of mTBI for active-duty military returning from the Iraqi and Afghani wars.In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Marks served in numerous positions on both the local and state professional organizations including as president of the Southern Arizona Psychological Association.Dr. Marks went on to complete an executive MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, following which he engaged in consulting in the non-profit sector. In his current work as director of the Zur Institute, he blends his passion for working with people from multiple backgrounds and cultures with his extensive clinical and professional experience.Fee:$75 Standard Registration$85 Standard Registration Including 3 CE CreditsContinuing Education Credits:Full attendance meets the qualifications for 3.0 hours of continuing education credit. Child Training Institute (CTI) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CTI maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The CA BBS recognizes the APA as an approval agency to meet their CE requirements. Disciplines such as social workers and counselors outside of California should check with their respective state board to assure acceptance of APA approved sponsors for CE credits.In order to receive CE credits, participants must purchase a Registration Including CE Credit ticket. Full attendance is required in order to receive CE credits and no partial credit will be offered. Failure to meet this requirement will prohibit the Child Training Institute from issuing a CE certificate and no refund will be provided.Registration and Cancellation:Pre-registration is required. Cancellation requests emailed to the event manager prior to 11:59 pm on Thursday, 2/8/24, will receive a full refund. No refunds for cancellation requests received on or after 2/9/24 regardless of the cause for cancellation including failure to join the meeting on the day of the training. If the training cannot be held due to circumstances beyond the hosts’ control (natural disaster, strike, fire, severe weather, illness of speaker, speaker cancellation, etc.) the event will be rescheduled, if possible, and the registration fee applied to that date.
