Addressing the youth mental health crisis: How to support our kids, what to look out for, and what resources are available.

Presented by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Washington County and Shattering Stigma with Stories.Addressing the youth mental health crisis for parents, teachers, coaches, and anyone else who works with or supports school age youth.It is estimated that 17.5% of school-age youth live with a mental health challenge - and that was even before the pandemic. That means, in Washington County alone, there are over 17,000 kids who are impacted by mental health challenges.J oin us for a morning of education and support, including:<ul><li>Presentations by parents and youth who have lived experience dealing with mental health challenges</li><li>Information on specific mental health challenges kids face (including anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidal thoughts)</li><li>A safe space for you to share what you are dealing with at home and connect with others</li><li>Hands-on practical tools you can use right away in your relationships with youth in your community.</li></ul>Y ou will also leave with new knowledge of what local resources are available to you, when it comes to supporting your children and yourself through mental health struggles.Made possible with the support of Washington County Health and Human Services.W e can't wait to see you there on April 6th!Note for parents: Childcare is NOT provided for this event.

Some of the members of our mental health panel will give a presentation. Topics are TBD, but previous topics have included: - What in the world should I say to that? A guide to supporting youth - Working with the school to help your child - What to do when your kid doesn't want to go to school
