Online School of Music: 4 week class Old Time Fiddle with Bruce Molsky

Caffè Lena presents extraordinary music in an intimate setting steeped in history. It is widely recognized as the longest continuously operating folk music venue in the United States. The Library of Congress calls Caffè Lena “An American treasure,” and we have been recognized by The GRAMMY Foundation for our important contributions to the development of American music. Caffe Lena's programs are made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

A four week online course taught by renowned fiddler Bruce Molsky.

Class registration ends 48 hours before the course begins on April 30th.

Bruce Molsky is back at Caffe Lena School of Music online with a follow-up for the super popular year-end fiddle class in 2023. New tunes, new techniques, new friends, great fiddling. Join this fun and intense hands-on approach in Bruce’s old time fiddle workshop. Tunes are taught a phrase at a time, first melody, then bowing, and then piecing things together. We'll dig into old-time music's unique phrasing, rhythm and syncopation, intonation, etc. The tune is the vehicle, so mostly we'll be playing! If enough folks are interested, we can also spend some time working on singing with the fiddle.Time: The course will take place on Wednesdays from 7:00pm - 8:30pmDates: Jan 31, Feb 7, Feb 14, and Feb 21, 2024The workshop will be taught on the Zoom internet platform. Instructions for accessing the online course will be sent to you by email when you enroll.Suggested experience level: If you have at least a small repertoire of tunes and feel comfortable learning short phrases by ear, then you'll be fine.
