About this event

Our Adult Sailing Lesson has no prerequisites and is a great place to either start your sailing endeavors or catch up if you have some experience. Our instructors tailor the lessons to best suit each sailors desired outcomes. Afternoon sessions often have light wind and are better for folks with some experience. (We also offer morningtime Learn to Sail lessons which often have light wind and better conditions for brand new sailors)

Classes run 3 hrs

Classes will only run with 2+ participants. Maximum 3 participants. Class WILL NOT RUN with only 1 participant. To guarantee a class will run, please pick a slot in which 1 or more tickets have been already sold.

We will sail in light rain, but not in heavy rain or high winds.

For bad weather cancellations you will recieve a full refund.

Participant cancellation policy:

  • Cancel more than 1 week before lesson: 100% refund
  • Cancel week of lesson: 50% refund
  • Cancel day of lesson: no refund

Frequently asked questions

What should I bring?

Clothes you can layer, suitable for all weather, including a hat and raincoat. Please wear closed-toe shoes. Sunglasses and sunscreen are a good idea. Some folks like sailing gloves or similar garden-like gloves that fit snugly. We suggest applying sunscreen even on days when it is cloudy.

Do I need a lifejacket?

We can provide you with a lifejacket (PFD), but if you have your own feel free to bring it.

Where is SailMaine? Where Do I Park?

We are on the water next to the Fore Points Marina. We do not have a physical address or number posted anywhere, but look for the flying orange and white flags! Parking: SailMaine does not have a parking lot. You will find free street parking within a 10-minute walk of SailMaine (please read the str

What happens when I arrive?

Go to the office check-in window to confirm your lesson. If no one is at the window to check you in, they are out on the launch and will return soon. If your instructor does not greet you directly, sit under the tent, and you will connect shortly.

How do we handle tough conditions?

Your instructor will determine before you get on the launch if conditions are suitable for a lesson. We sail in light rain, but not high winds (20+ knots) or storms.
