No more trying to be mindful alone.The Hive exists to develop creative, compassionate, and mindfully-engaged citizens in the Cincinnati region through small group classes and workshops. We have curated a collective of proven teachers, facilitators, and spiritual directors to help guide your learning in mindfulness, contemplation, art and action. We hope you'll try a class and like it enough to become a regular member. Your partnership helps make this nonprofit possible.(As a social enterprise, the Hive shares our story with photos of classes and events. Click here to join today.</a></p><p><br></p><h2>Infinite Emptiness: Increasin Mindfulness Through Art</h2><h3>Domain: Creative Expression, Contemplative Practice</h3><p>Mindfulness doesn’t have to be stillness meditation. It can be any activity where you give your full intention, being fully present in the moment or in a state of flow where “you” get out of your own way and let things happen. In this course, you will have an opportunity to get your expectations and yourself out of the way and mindfully create something beautiful using processes inspired by Japanese Zen Enso, wabi-sabi, and conceptual art.</p><p>Artists make sketches upon sketches before painting. Photographers take hundreds of thousands of pictures to get the perfect shot. Actors, dancers, athletes, and musicians rehearse and practice for countless hours before the performance.</p><p>The secret to making art, any art, is allowing oneself to simply begin and make mistakes – a lot of mistakes – and keep trying, honoring the flaws and imperfections along the way.</p><p>Alex Salsman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he majored in visual studies. Starting with meditation as a young child, Alex has been on a lifelong journey exploring religion, spirituality, and the world. He has developed a “non” coloring book that will be the “text” for this course at a cost of $20. Please bring whatever art materials you find inspiring, Alex will also be providing a wide array of supplies for mark making.</p><p><br></p><h3>Covid Considerations: Masks are currently optional at the Hive. Individuals may choose to wear a mask for personal protection, and as always, we ask anyone who is feeling sick or has a high temperature to not attend until they are recovered.
