Sketch 101: Intro to Comedy Writing

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at Saturday Night Live? Even if you have no writing or comedy experience, you will be writing strong comedy sketches in no time!In Sketch 101, students will learn the basics of sketch comedy. Over the six week course, we'll explore the principles of sketch structure, scene dynamics and characterization, and learn a variety of sketch formats.Each week, students will get to put the lessons into practice with writing assignments, and will have the opportunity to give and receive feedback in an open writers' room workshop format. Classes every Monday, April 29 - June 10, skipping Memorial Day. Instructor: Megan Myers Megan Myers (she/her) is an improviser, performer, writer, and professional editor. She has been a regular contributor to Mettlesome sketch shows, recently performing in Was It Something I Said? and writing for the holiday-themed Let It Show. Megan has been practising long-form improv comedy since 2019; she travels with the Mettlesome Tour Co and performs as a cast member of the Mettlesome house team Hush Hush. Megan is chaotic good and appreciates a well-timed literary reference. She will drop everything to talk with you about books, D&D, or knitting. In warm weather, she can be found outdoors riding bikes with her fiancé or gazing at clouds.
