A day of workshops, shopping, and networking, followed by an evening showcase of performances featuring some of the area's best dancers. Come peruse the various vendor wares, from bellydance wear to jewelry to henna to instruments; the sights, sounds, and shopping are free. There will be multiple dining options to sate your appetite, so there’s no need to rush along. Stick around and let us entice you into joining a workshop or three with us. Finish off the day of learning and shopping with a night of top-notch performances. Join us as we take to the stage, see your instructors in performance mode, and wow at the grace of our members as they show off their skills. This is not an event to miss! Our special guest instructor and performer for the 2024 Annual Bazaar will be the amazing Athena Howe! Currently located in Columbus, OH, Athena has been variously described as “bold like hot sauce” and “basically the gay female Elvis.” She is a multi-award winning dancer whose style is an enchanting mixture of mischievous and glamourous. With over a decade of professional performance experience, you can trust that her expertise will help make this a Bazaar to remember! We have ala carte options for the workshops and the show, or you can get a discounted all-day pass (includes access to workshops and show). Plus, new this year, we will be offering a "significant other" package that allows you to take whatever morning workshops you choose (middle eastern drumming, etc.) and then attend the show in the evening. <h3>ATHENA HOWE</h3>

Athena is a Columbus, Ohio based dancer who was been performing professionally since 2008. She has performed at hundreds, if not thousands of events, both nationally and internationally. Now, she teaches, performs, and hosts events in her home city while staying dedicated to her personal practice. She is well-known to Indianapolis bellydance audiences having taught and performed at numerous local events, including the 2023 Bazaar. We are thrilled that Athena will be teaching two 1-1/2 hour workshops as well as performing two numbers in the gala show! Her workshops are described below:<h4>Vintage Visions</h4>Unveil the allure of a bygone era! Join Athena in a vintage belly dance workshop, where we will dive into timeless movements throughout each decade of belly dance. Expect to cover the elegance of golden era dancing to the juicy layers popular in the 1980's. We will show these classic movements along with how to add these into your shows. Elevate your dance journey by fusing these classic movements to your modern dance repertoire. Take some time to get groovy, and discover all the ways you can be amazed with what your body can do. <h4>Shimmy Symphony</h4>Classic songs in belly dance become classics for a reason- every time you hear them you are transported into the moment. These classic songs can be intimidating for dancers to approach because they are full of cultural context, uncommon rhythmic changes, and have been performed so often you compare yourself to the other dancers you have seen. In this course, Athena and Indy Raqs will cover some famous belly dance songs. We will talk about the music, the cultural context, and some combinations, while giving you time to improvise and discover how you want to perform these songs. We believe the world needs to see your interpretation- because every shimmy deserves a symphony. <h4>Accessibility</h4>Accessibility options provided in all of Athena's workshops include: class notes via google drive, seated and standing options taught, modifications to movement and language, and gender neutral language used.

<h3>SWAP'N'SHOP</h3>We are pleased to announce the return of the ever-popular swap'n'shop to the Bazaar. Here's what you need to know: <ul><li>Swap'n'Shop sales for this event will be CASH ONLY, so you might want to visit the ATM on your way in! (Note: if you must use another form of payment, you can track down the seller and work something out directly with them.)</li><li>You do not have to pre-register to sell your stuff.</li><li>If you are selling stuff, you must download and print the "SwapNShop tags" file <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y2AZx28f6ppMxNzDYP3SSM04iqDD1aib/view?usp=sharing" title="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y2AZx28f6ppMxNzDYP3SSM04iqDD1aib/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here.</a> You will complete a whole row of 3 tags for EACH item you are selling. The first (leftmost) tag is for your records. <h3>VOLUNTEERING AT THE BAZAAR</h3>We have a number of volunteer positions available for the Bazaar. If you perform at least 2 hours of volunteer work, you will receive a refund of your advance ticket purchase (net of Eventbrite fees) up to $35 for members or $25 for non-members (details in volunteer application). We are looking for volunteers for the following positions:<ul><li>Registration - All day - Table at door to check-in pre-purchased ticket holders, take payments for workshops, performances, donations, and memberships. Will also be home to INBC info, brochures, flyers, etc.</li><li>Swap and Shop Volunteer - All day - Manages Swap'n'Shop for a specific period of time</li><li>Stage Tech / Assistant - Evening only</li><li>Vendor Assistant - All Day - Gives vendors a break for food, potty, etc.</li><li>Other - Wants to work with a particular Instructor or Vendor.</li></ul> Apply to volunteer by completing the online application (link in the "important links" section above).Volunteer Coordinator: Traci Rollins

<h3>PERFORMING IN THE GALA SHOW</h3>Apply to perform in the gala show by completing the online application (link in the "important links" section above). Every performer in your act must either: (1) be a current member of the Indiana Bellydance Collective, or (2) purchase a workshop pass, or (3) teach a workshop. Performers will receive free admission to the gala show and announcement on social media.Applications are now closed.Performer Coordinator: Jenny Smithson

<h3>TEACHING A WORKSHOP</h3>This year we have 4 venues for simultaneous member-led workshops! Since we have extra space, this will allow us to offer even more classes than last year! You can apply to be an instructor by completing the online application (link in "important links" section above). Instructors will receive a free all-day pass and announcement on social media.Last year we just couldn't accomodate all the great proposals we received. So, if you applied to teach but didn't get in, please don't take it personally; we encourage you to apply again for 2024.Applications are now closed.Instructor Coordinator: Katie Ulmer

<h3>VENDING AT THE BAZAAR</h3>Shopping is always a big part of the Annual Bazaar (and bellydancers love to shop)! We will be accepting applications for vendors via the online application (link in the "important links" section above). Accepted vendors will receive a free vendor pass, allowing complete access to the event, and announcement on social media.Booth size is 8' x 8'.
