Tobacco Treatment Training Program

Join us for this brown bag on treating tobacco use, a short-and-sweet training designed to slot into your work day.

This 1-hour training provides an introduction to tobacco use and basic treatment possibilities. It takes a deeper look into disparities that exist within tobacco use in California, and specifically Alameda County. Participants will also gain an understanding of how to integrate knowledge of health literacy and disparities in tobacco use and control with best practices into a standard delivery of care.Who Should Attend: This training is designed for administrative and/or Clinical Staff of ACBH funded substance use treatment and mental health programs. However, all staff are welcome to attend.Format: This training will be held virtually, and registration is required. After registering through Eventbrite, you will be sent the Zoom meeting details.Educational GoalsAt the end of the training, participants will:<ol><li>Be able to understand the myths and realities surrounding tobacco use.</li><li>Know the basic forms of evidence-based tobacco dependence screening and treatment strategies.</li><li>Understand health literacy, as well as health inequities with regard to tobacco use and control.</li><li>Gain a basic understanding of how to integrate health literacy into tobacco treatment practices.</li><li>Understand how to integrate the knowledge of health disparities in tobacco use and control with evidence-based best treatment practices.</li></ol>Trainer: Dr. Tara Geer-Leiker, PhDDr. Tara Leiker has a robust, over 20-year, background in behavioral and mental health services, which has included working in treatment facilities and providing motivational interviewing counseling services to dependent users. After switching gears into program and policy development and management later in her career, Dr. Leiker now has a PhD in Health Services and Public Health Policy. Dr. Leiker is passionate about tobacco treatment and especially ensuring that tobacco policies are put into practice. She is focused on increasing access to tobacco treatment and awareness and implementation of tobacco policies throughout Alameda County. This training is sponsored by Alameda County Behavioral Health in contract with LifeLong Medical Care’s Tobacco Treatment Training Program, located EBCRP.
