Join us for a free generative writing session to kick off the new year!As writers, we tend to fall into the belief that the words we produce have to somehow define us forever. It can make us spend a lot of time trying to edit ourselves in our heads before we even get words on the page. This approach makes it hard to get a sentence down. It also makes the act of writing feel less like a creative expression and more like a tooth extraction.In this two hour generative session, we will practice managing our doubts when they interfere with our creative process. Together, we will allow ourselves to write in ways that are brave and embarrassing, confusing and important, strange and exciting. We will learn to balance our creative flow with our worries about what others might think. By the end of this class, we will have a set of strategies we can use the next time we face a blank page.About Samantha SteinerSamantha Steiner is a writer and visual artist. The author of more than fifty journal publications and winner of Best Microfiction 2021, Steiner has received fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation, the Saltonstall Foundation, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She holds a BA in Comparative Literature from Brown University and an MFA in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College. She has taught classes for the Writing Institute including Writing Home, Submitting to Literary Magazines &amp; Applying to Writing Residencies.
