The Institute for Human Centered Design is a 40 year old design and education nonprofit based in Boston, MA, dedicated to enhancing the experiences of people of all ages, abilities, and cultures through excellence in design.

<P>Joel Sanders is the founder of MIXdesign, a think-tank and design consultancy that is a branch of his New York based architecture studio JSA. MIXdesign works with commercial and institutional clients to create accessible and welcoming spaces that meets the needs; of people of different ages, genders, races, religions and abilities. Initiatives include Stalled!, an AIA award-winning project that responds to national controversies surrounding transgender access to pubic restrooms and MIXmuseum, a Toolkit for making the public spaces of museums accessible to diverse audiences.</P>
<P>Drawing from his design research on restrooms and museums, Joel Sanders will discuss the imperative for designers to form cross-disciplinary collaborations dedicated to creating inclusive public spaces that meet the needs of people of different ages, genders, races and abilities.</P>
