"Crafting Your Professional Narrative" with Donte Parks (Engr '01), founder of Getting the Nod

Whether you are planning a job search or career transition, applying to grad school, or polishing your resume, we know you have questions!Our monthly series, ACE Virtual Drop-Ins, offers alumni an opportunity to have your questions addressed by UVA Alumni Career Engagement Director, Liz Sprouse. This month, Liz will be joined by a special guest host, Donte Parks (Engr '01), founder of Getting the Nod, who will speak to "Crafting Your Professional Narrative." Participation is free and open to all alumni. Guest Host:<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/donte/" title="https://www.linkedin.com/in/donte/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Donte Parks (Engr '01)</a> - Founder, <a href="https://gettingthenod.com/" title="https://gettingthenod.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Getting the Nod</a> Leaning on two decades of experience in tech People/Culture and recruiting/hiring, Donte Parks balances analytical and "soft" skills to understand the needs of both companies and job seekers and translate that to improved career success for his clients. He founded the career strategy firm Getting the Nod in 2023 after 16 years as part of the founding team at digital insights &amp; innovation studio Substantial, first working with clients (including Citibank, Kanye West, ESPN, and a number of startups) as Chief Account Manager before focusing more internally as VP of Culture and later VP of People Engagement. He's spoken at conferences including SXSW and Seattle Interactive and educational institutions on topics including company culture, DEI, and career transitions. Outside of work Donte has spent his time as nonprofit board leader/member, music writer, and obsessive dog dad to Jefferson and Franklin.
